AirDrop sends photos, links, documents, contacts, and other supported items directly between nearby Apple devices. Both devices need wireless features enabled and must be close enough to discover each other.
Send something with AirDrop
- Open the photo, file, webpage, or other item you want to send.
- Tap Share, then choose AirDrop.
- Select the nearby recipient when the device appears.
- Wait for the recipient to accept if approval is required.
- Keep the devices near each other until the transfer completes.
If the other device does not appear, check its AirDrop receiving setting in Control Center or Settings. Receiving can be restricted to contacts or temporarily opened to nearby users. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth should be on, and Personal Hotspot can interfere with discovery.
Only accept unexpected AirDrop requests when you recognize the sender and understand what is being shared.
