How to Back Up iPhone to Mac: A Step-by-Step Guide

May 26, 2025 By Steven

How to Back Up iPhone to Mac is straightforward once you use the current iPhone controls. The exact wording can vary slightly by iOS version, carrier, and iPhone model.

  1. Connect the iPhone to the Mac with a compatible cable.
  2. Open Finder and select the iPhone in the sidebar. Trust the devices if prompted.
  3. Open the General tab.
  4. For a backup, choose the backup option you want and click Back Up Now. For content syncing, select the relevant Music, Movies, Photos, or other tabs and choose what should sync.
  5. Wait for the operation to finish before ejecting the iPhone.

An encrypted computer backup can preserve additional protected information. Keep the encryption password somewhere safe because Apple cannot recover it for you.
