You can block a specific unfamiliar number or use iPhone call-screening controls when unwanted calls continually arrive from new numbers. The best choice depends on whether the caller has a visible number.
Block an Individual Number
- Open Phone.
- Tap Recents.
- Tap the information button beside the number.
- Tap Block Caller.
- Confirm the block.
Handle Calls From Numbers You Have Not Saved
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Phone.
- Review the unknown-caller or call-screening options available on your iPhone.
- Select the behavior you prefer.
Blocked Number vs. No Caller ID
A visible unfamiliar number can be added to the blocked list. A caller that withholds its number may not provide a unique number that can be blocked in the same way, so screening is more useful.
Do Not Miss Important Calls
Unknown-caller controls can also affect legitimate calls from unsaved numbers. Check voicemail and recent calls when you are expecting a medical office, school, repair service, delivery, or other new caller.
Blocking Does Not Prove a Caller Is Gone
Phone numbers can be spoofed, reassigned, or changed. Blocking a displayed number prevents normal contact from that entry, but it does not stop a scammer who starts calling from different numbers. For persistent abuse or fraud, combine iPhone controls with your carrier’s spam tools and keep records if the calls may need to be reported.
Review Recent Calls Regularly
When unknown-caller screening is strict, check Recents periodically. That gives you a chance to catch legitimate calls that did not ring normally without weakening your spam controls for everyone else.
