If your carrier supports caller-ID blocking, you can prevent your number from being displayed on many outgoing calls. The setting affects what the recipient sees; it does not make the call completely anonymous.
Hide Your Number for Outgoing Calls
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Phone.
- Tap Show My Caller ID.
- Turn the setting off.
If the Setting Is Missing
Caller-ID blocking can be controlled by the carrier. If Show My Caller ID is unavailable or grayed out, contact your wireless provider for the options available on your line.
Turn Your Number Back On
Return to the same setting and enable Show My Caller ID. If your carrier manages the feature directly, use its instructions instead.
Per-Call Blocking
Some carriers support a code or service for hiding caller ID on an individual call. Because these methods vary by carrier and country, use your carrier’s official instructions rather than assuming a generic code applies.
Limits of Caller-ID Blocking
Your carrier and certain services can still know the originating number, and some calls may not honor caller-ID blocking. Do not rely on the feature as a security or anonymity system.
Some Recipients Reject Hidden Calls
Businesses and individuals can configure their phone systems to ignore or reject calls without caller ID. If an important call repeatedly fails after you hide your number, turn caller ID back on and try again. Emergency services and certain regulated services may also handle caller identity differently from ordinary calls.
Caller ID Can Be Required for Some Services
Financial institutions, medical systems, and automated verification services may use the calling number as one signal when handling a call. If a service behaves unexpectedly, temporarily showing your number can help.
