A carrier unlock allows an iPhone to use another compatible carrier. It is different from the screen passcode and Activation Lock, and Apple does not perform carrier unlocks for customers.
- Open Settings > General > About and check Carrier Lock.
- If it says No SIM restrictions, the iPhone is already carrier-unlocked.
- If it is locked, contact the carrier that controls the lock and ask about its eligibility requirements.
- Complete any carrier-required account, payment, or waiting-period steps.
- After approval, follow the carrier’s activation instructions for the new SIM or eSIM.
Even an unlocked iPhone must support the new carrier’s network and activation requirements. Carrier unlocking does not remove an Apple Account or Activation Lock.
