You can choose a different sound for each alarm in the Clock app. Changing an alarm sound does not change your ringtone or the sounds used by every other notification.
Change the Sound for an Existing Alarm
- Open the Clock app.
- Tap Alarms.
- Tap the alarm you want to edit.
- Tap Sound.
- Select a tone or supported song.
- Go back to the alarm settings.
- Tap Save.
Choose a Song as the Alarm
If the Clock app offers the option, you can select a song from your music library. Make sure the track is actually available to the iPhone when the alarm needs to play.
If the Alarm Is Too Quiet
Alarm loudness is related to the iPhone’s alert volume rather than the media volume you use for music and videos. Check Settings > Sounds & Haptics and review the Ringtone and Alerts volume.
Sleep Schedule Alarms
Wake-up alarms created through Sleep or Health can have their own controls. If changing a normal Clock alarm does not affect the wake-up sound you use every morning, edit the sleep schedule’s alarm instead.
Why an Alarm Can Sound Different Than Expected
An alarm can be affected by the selected tone, alert volume, and the specific alarm type. If a song is unavailable offline or has been removed from your music library, the alarm may not behave as expected. Test an important alarm after changing its sound, especially when you depend on it for work, medication, travel, or another time-sensitive event.
Label Multiple Alarms Clearly
If you use several alarms, give them descriptive labels such as “Work,” “Medication,” or “School.” Clear labels reduce the chance of changing the wrong alarm when several are set for similar times.
