Battery Health shows information about your iPhone battery’s condition and its ability to deliver normal performance. Rechargeable batteries chemically age over time, so some loss of maximum capacity is expected.
Check Battery Health
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Open Battery Health or the battery-health section shown for your model.
- Review Maximum Capacity, cycle information, and any service or performance messages that are available.
What Maximum Capacity Means
Maximum Capacity compares the battery’s current capacity with its capacity when new. A lower percentage can mean fewer hours of use between charges, but the number should be considered along with actual battery life and any service messages.
Battery Health Varies by iPhone Model
Apple exposes somewhat different battery details on different generations and iOS versions. Newer models can provide additional information such as cycle count and manufacturing or first-use details.
When to Consider Service
If iOS reports that battery health is significantly degraded, the phone shuts down unexpectedly, or battery life has become impractical, battery service may improve the experience. Use Apple or a qualified repair provider rather than treating a single percentage as a diagnosis.
Battery Health Is Not Battery Percentage
The percentage in the status bar tells you how much charge remains right now. Maximum Capacity estimates how much charge the battery can hold compared with when it was new. A phone can show 100% charge while still having an aged battery with reduced maximum capacity.
Heat Can Affect Battery Readings
Very hot or cold conditions can temporarily affect battery performance. Evaluate battery health under normal temperatures before concluding that a one-time short runtime means the battery is failing.
