How to Connect iPhone to MacBook: A Step-by-Step Guide

August 27, 2025 By Steven

You can connect an iPhone to a MacBook with a compatible cable for syncing, backups, file access, and photo importing. Some features can also work wirelessly after initial setup.

  1. Connect the iPhone to the MacBook with a data-capable cable.
  2. Unlock the iPhone and tap Trust if asked.
  3. Open Finder and select the iPhone under Locations.
  4. Choose the sync, backup, or file options you need.

If the iPhone does not appear, try another data-capable cable or port and confirm that both devices are unlocked and updated. Photos can also be imported through the Photos app.

Before removing originals or changing an important setting, verify the result on the iPhone so you can correct the change while the original information is still available.
