How to Customize Widgets on iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

October 28, 2025 By Steven

iPhone widgets can show information or provide quick controls without requiring you to open the full app. You can change their size, position, and—in supported widgets—the information they display.

Customize a Home Screen widget

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons become editable.
  2. Use the add control to open the widget gallery.
  3. Choose an app, then swipe through the available widget sizes and layouts.
  4. Add the widget and drag it to the position you want.
  5. Tap Done when the Home Screen is arranged correctly.

To change an existing widget, touch and hold it. If the app supports configurable options, choose Edit Widget and select the available setting, such as a list, location, calendar, or album. You can also stack compatible widgets in the same space and move between them.

If a widget does not offer the information you want, that is normally a limitation of the app’s widget rather than an iPhone setting.
