How to Enable the QR Code Scanner on the iPhone Camera App

QR codes have been a popular way for people to turn something in the physical world into a way to access digital content. Some businesses will use them as ways to access a special deal or informational page on a website, while others may use it to link to a picture or video.

For a long time you needed to use a third-party app if you wanted to scan a QR code from your iPhone, but now it’s possible to do it using only the default Camera app on your device. Our guide below will show you how to enable this option.

How to Turn on the iPhone’s QR Code Scanner in the Camera App

The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 7 Plus in iOS 12.1.4. Note that some earlier versions of iOS don’t have this option, so you may need to update to iOS 12 if you want to use this option but don’t have it on your device.

Step 1: Open the Settings app.

open the settings app

Step 2: Scroll down and choose the Camera option.

Now you can simply open the Camera app, point it at the QR code for a couple of seconds, then wait for a pop-up appear at the top of the screen that you can then tap to open the link in Safari.
