A factory reset erases the iPhone and returns it to the setup screen. Back up anything you want to keep first, because this process removes apps, settings, messages, photos stored only on the device, and other local data.
- Open Settings and tap General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings, then tap Continue.
- Enter the device passcode and Apple Account password if requested.
- Review any eSIM choice shown on the screen, then confirm the erase.
The iPhone restarts at the Hello screen when the erase is complete. If Find My was enabled, Apple may require the associated Apple Account credentials as part of the process. A factory reset is different from a force restart, which does not erase data.
