Files downloaded from Safari are usually stored in the Files app, commonly in a Downloads folder in iCloud Drive or On My iPhone. The exact location depends on your Safari download setting.
Find Downloaded Files
- Open the Files app.
- Tap Browse.
- Open iCloud Drive or On My iPhone.
- Open the Downloads folder.
- Tap the file you want to view.
Find a Recent Safari Download
Safari can show a Downloads button after you download a file. Tap it to view recent downloads and open the corresponding file.
Search in Files
If the file is not where you expected, use the search field in Files and enter part of the filename. Also check Recently viewed locations and the other storage providers enabled in Files.
Photos May Be in Photos Instead
An image you explicitly save to the photo library can appear in Photos rather than the Files Downloads folder. The destination depends on the action you chose when saving it.
Change Safari’s Download Location
Safari settings let you choose where future downloads are stored. If you frequently lose downloaded files, review that setting so you know whether to look in iCloud Drive or local iPhone storage.
Downloaded Files Can Move
Once you rename, move, or save a downloaded file into another app, it may no longer be in the original Downloads folder. Use the Files search field and check Recents when the expected folder is empty. Cloud-storage providers added to Files can also become destinations for documents you move manually.
Sort Files to Find Recent Downloads Faster
In Files, sorting by date can help when you remember when a file was downloaded but not its exact name. This is often faster than opening folders one by one.
