How to Find My iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide for Lost Devices

August 27, 2025 By Steven

Find My is Apple’s tool for locating an iPhone that is lost or misplaced. The phone must still be associated with your Apple Account for you to use the available recovery and protection options.

  1. Open Find My on another Apple device or use Apple’s supported Find Devices website.
  2. Select the missing iPhone from your device list.
  3. Check the available location and use Play Sound if you think it is nearby.
  4. Use Mark As Lost when the phone is genuinely missing.
  5. Erase the device remotely only when appropriate, because an erase removes local data.

Keep the device on your Apple Account after a theft so Activation Lock remains in place. A location shown in Find My can be approximate or unavailable when the phone cannot report its position.
