Passwords and passkeys saved by your iPhone are managed in Apple’s Passwords app on current versions of iOS. Access is protected by Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode.
View a Saved Password
- Open the Passwords app.
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
- Search for the website or app account.
- Tap the account.
- Tap the Password field to view it.
- Use Copy Password if you need to paste it elsewhere.
Find a Password From a Sign-In Screen
When a compatible sign-in form is open, tap the Password AutoFill control and authenticate. You can then choose a saved credential without manually opening Passwords first.
If a Password Is Missing
Check that you are signed in to the expected Apple Account and that password syncing is configured the way you expect. Also remember that some accounts now use passkeys instead of traditional passwords.
Protect Your Saved Credentials
Do not send screenshots of the Passwords app or share copied passwords with people you do not trust. If you believe an account credential has been exposed, change it with the website or service that owns the account.
Passwords, Passkeys, and Verification Codes
The Passwords app can contain more than traditional website passwords. Depending on the account, you may see passkeys, verification codes, Wi-Fi credentials, and security-related notes. A passkey is not something you normally copy and type like a password; it is used through Apple’s authentication system.
Search Instead of Browsing Manually
If you have hundreds of saved accounts, use the search field and enter the website, app, or account name. This is faster and reduces the chance of opening a similarly named credential by mistake.
