On an iPhone 13, a hard reset usually means forcing the phone to restart when the screen or controls are not responding. A force restart does not erase the iPhone.
Steps
- Quickly press and release Volume Up.
- Quickly press and release Volume Down.
- Press and hold the Side button.
- Release the Side button when the Apple logo appears.
Do not confuse a force restart with a factory reset. Erasing the phone removes personal data and settings, while the button sequence above simply forces iOS to restart.
This is also the standard force-restart sequence for several newer Face ID iPhones. If the Apple logo never appears, charge the phone for a while and try again before assuming that the reset procedure failed.
