How to Make a Shared Note on iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

May 29, 2025 By Steven

A shared Apple Note lets invited people view or edit the same note through iCloud.

  1. Open Notes and create or select a note stored in iCloud.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Choose the collaboration option rather than sending a static copy.
  4. Set the access permissions you want and choose how to send the invitation.
  5. Send the invitation to the people you want to collaborate with.

Collaboration requires compatible accounts and services. If the note is stored under an email provider that does not support Apple Notes collaboration, move or create it in iCloud first.

If the labels on your screen differ slightly, use Settings search or the app’s current menus to find the named feature. Apple sometimes moves controls between iOS releases, so follow the feature name rather than an unrelated setting with similar wording.
