How to Power Off iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide for Every Model

August 21, 2025 By Steven

An iPhone can be powered off from the button combination or through Settings. A normal shutdown is different from a force restart.

  1. On a Face ID iPhone, press and hold the side button and either volume button until the sliders appear.
  2. Drag slide to power off.
  3. Wait for the screen to go completely dark.
  4. To turn it back on, hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.

You can also open Settings > General > Shut Down. If the iPhone is frozen and cannot display or respond to the slider, use the force-restart sequence for that model.

Before removing originals or changing an important setting, verify the result on the iPhone so you can correct the change while the original information is still available.
