How to Record Audio on iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

August 18, 2025 By Steven

The built-in Voice Memos app is the simplest way to record spoken audio, meetings, or other sounds with the iPhone microphone.

  1. Open Voice Memos.
  2. Tap the red Record button.
  3. Speak or capture the sound you need, keeping the microphone unobstructed.
  4. Tap Stop when you are finished.
  5. Rename, trim, share, or organize the recording as needed.

Recording laws and consent requirements vary by location and situation, especially for private conversations. Voice Memos is designed for audio recording; use Camera or another appropriate app when you also need video.

Before removing originals or changing an important setting, verify the result on the iPhone so you can correct the change while the original information is still available.
