If you want to make an audio recording on an iPhone, the built-in Voice Memos app is the simplest option. It can record speech, meetings, reminders, instruments, and other nearby sounds through the iPhone microphone.
Make an Audio Recording
- Open Voice Memos.
- Tap the Record button.
- Speak or play the sound you want to capture.
- Tap Stop when you are finished.
- Tap the recording name if you want to rename it.
Pause and Resume
Open the recording controls while recording to access additional options when available. This can be useful for a long recording where you want to pause without creating several separate files.
Trim a Recording
Voice Memos includes editing controls for trimming unwanted audio from the beginning or end and for replacing sections in supported workflows. Duplicate an important recording first if you want an extra copy before experimenting.
Recording Quality
Keep the microphone unobstructed and place the iPhone reasonably close to the sound source. A quiet room and stable placement usually improve speech recordings more than holding the phone at a distance.

Use Airplane Mode When Interruptions Matter
