AirPlay can mirror your iPhone screen to a compatible Apple TV, smart TV, or Mac. Both devices generally need to be on the same Wi-Fi network and the receiving device must support AirPlay.
Mirror the iPhone Screen
- Connect the iPhone and receiving device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure AirPlay is enabled on the TV or receiver.
- Open Control Center on the iPhone.
- Tap Screen Mirroring.
- Select the TV, Apple TV, or Mac.
- Enter the AirPlay passcode if one appears on the receiving screen.
Stop Mirroring
- Open Control Center.
- Tap Screen Mirroring.
- Tap Stop Mirroring.
If the TV Does Not Appear
Confirm that both devices are awake, nearby, connected to the appropriate network, and running current software. Restarting the iPhone, TV, or network equipment can help after those basics are checked.
Mirroring vs. Streaming
Screen Mirroring duplicates the iPhone display. Some video apps instead provide their own AirPlay button, which sends the video directly to the receiving device and can provide a better playback experience.
Protected Video
Some services restrict mirroring or external playback because of content-protection rules. A black video window does not necessarily mean AirPlay itself is broken.
Protect Private Notifications While Mirroring
Screen Mirroring can display incoming notifications and anything else that appears on the iPhone. Before presenting to a room or sharing with a television others can see, consider enabling an appropriate Focus and closing apps that contain private messages, photos, financial information, or work data.
Use the Correct TV Input and Profile
Some smart TVs support AirPlay only when the television is on the right input, network, or user profile. Check the TV’s AirPlay settings if the iPhone never sees it.
