Screen recording captures a video of what happens on your iPhone display. It is useful for tutorials, troubleshooting, demonstrations, and saving activity that an app permits you to record.
Add Screen Recording to Control Center
- Open Control Center.
- Touch and hold an empty area to edit the controls.
- Tap Add a Control.
- Add Screen Recording.
Record the iPhone Screen
- Open Control Center.
- Tap the Screen Recording button.
- Wait for the countdown.
- Leave Control Center and use the iPhone normally.
- Stop recording by tapping the recording indicator and confirming, or return to Control Center and tap Screen Recording again.
The finished recording is saved in Photos.
Record Your Microphone Too
- Open Control Center.
- Touch and hold the Screen Recording control.
- Tap Microphone to turn microphone audio on.
- Tap Start Recording.
Why Is Part of a Recording Black or Silent?
Some apps and protected media restrict screen or audio capture. Screen recording is not a way to bypass copy protection, privacy controls, or an app’s security restrictions. Notifications can also appear in recordings, so consider using a Focus mode or otherwise protecting private information before recording.
If Screen Recording Is Missing
Check Control Center customization and any Screen Time or device-management restrictions. A managed work or school iPhone can have capabilities limited by its administrator.
Can You Record App Audio?
Whether internal audio is captured depends on the app and the content being played. A game or ordinary app may allow its sound to be recorded, while streaming video, calls, or protected media may restrict capture. If audio is important, make a short test recording first and play it back before recording a long tutorial.
