How to Set Screen Time on iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

August 19, 2025 By Steven

Screen Time tracks device use and can enforce Downtime, app limits, communication rules, and content restrictions. You can configure it for yourself or, with Family Sharing, for a child.

  1. Open Settings > Screen Time.
  2. Turn on Screen Time or select the appropriate family member if it is not already configured.
  3. Set Downtime for scheduled restricted periods.
  4. Use App Limits to set daily limits for categories or individual apps.
  5. Configure Content & Privacy Restrictions and a Screen Time passcode if you need enforcement.

Screen Time reports are estimates of device activity and can change as devices sync. For child controls, use a passcode the child does not know and review Family Sharing settings as well.
