How to Soft Reset iPhone: A Simple Guide to Restart Your Device

August 13, 2025 By Steven

A soft reset is simply a normal restart when the iPhone still responds. It closes the current session and starts iOS again without deleting personal data.

  1. Press and hold the Side button and either volume button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn the iPhone off.
  3. Wait about 30 seconds for it to shut down.
  4. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
  5. Unlock the iPhone and check whether the original problem is gone.

If the iPhone is frozen and will not show the slider, use the force-restart button sequence instead.

After completing the steps, check the result for Soft Reset iPhone before changing another setting. If it did not work, return to the same control and review the selected option rather than making a broader reset.
