How to Tell if Someone Read Your Text on iPhone
Want to know if someone actually read your text on iPhone? It’s easy! Look for "Read Receipts," a feature that lets you see if your message was opened. You’ll need to have iMessage enabled and be messaging someone who also has it activated. Once both of you have read receipts turned on, you’ll see the word "Read" and a timestamp when the other person views your message. Simple, right?
Steps
- Open the Messages App. Launch the Messages app on your iPhone to start checking if your texts are being read. This app icon looks like a green speech bubble and it’s where all your text conversations are housed. Once it’s open, find the chat with the person you want to check
- Check for iMessage Activation. Ensure that iMessage is activated by looking for blue chat bubbles in your conversation. Messages sent via iMessage appear in blue, whereas standard text messages are green. If your messages are blue, you’re using iMessage, which is required to see read receipts
- Enable Read Receipts. Go to the settings to enable read receipts for your messages. Head to Settings on your iPhone, then tap Messages. Locate the "Send Read Receipts" option and make sure it’s toggled on. This will allow others to see when you’ve read their messages, too
- Wait for a Response. Look for the word "Read" and a timestamp under your last sent message as a response. Once you’ve sent a text and the recipient opens it, you’ll notice a "Read" notification alongside the time it was read, right beneath your message
- Review Settings if Needed. If something’s amiss, revisit the settings to ensure everything is properly configured. Sometimes settings might not stick, so if you’re not seeing read receipts, double-check both your settings and theirs to ensure everything’s turned on properly. After completing these steps, you’ll be able to see when your messages are read, provided both parties have the necessary settings enabled
