If an iPhone will not turn on, you can still identify it by its physical design, model information printed or engraved in supported locations, the original packaging, or another device/account where it was previously registered.
Identify an iPhone without powering it on
- Remove the case and compare the camera layout, button arrangement, connector, screen size, and overall design with Apple’s model-identification information.
- Check the SIM-tray area or other model-specific locations for a model number if your iPhone generation provides one there.
- Look at the original box or purchase receipt for the model name, serial number, or part information.
- If the iPhone belongs to your Apple Account, check your account’s device list from another trusted Apple device or the Apple Account website.
- Use the model or serial information to distinguish between visually similar versions.
Do not rely only on color. Apple has reused similar finishes across generations, and cases can hide important differences.
