Moving music from an iPhone to a computer depends on where the music came from. Music synced from another computer or downloaded through a streaming subscription cannot simply be copied back as ordinary song files.
- If the songs were purchased from Apple, sign in to the same Apple Account on the computer and download the purchases through the Music app or Apple TV/iTunes purchasing interface available on that computer.
- If you use an Apple Music subscription with Sync Library, sign in to the same Apple Account and turn on library syncing on the computer so your cloud library appears there.
- For personal audio files that exist only on the iPhone, check the app that stores them for a Share, Export, Files, or file-sharing option.
- Before deleting anything from the iPhone, open several transferred songs on the computer to confirm that the files or cloud library are available.
Apple’s normal sync system is designed primarily to sync a computer or cloud music library to the iPhone, not to extract arbitrary synced tracks from an iPhone. Avoid utilities that promise to defeat DRM or copy protected subscription music.
