You can import iPhone photos to a Windows PC with a USB cable and the Windows Photos app. The iPhone must be unlocked, and you may need to approve a trust prompt before Windows can access the photo library.
Import Photos With a USB Cable
- Connect the iPhone to the PC with a compatible data cable.
- Unlock the iPhone.
- Tap Trust or Allow if the iPhone asks whether the computer may access the device.
- Open the Windows Photos app.
- Choose Import.
- Select the connected iPhone.
- Choose the photos and videos you want to copy.
- Select an import location.
- Start the import and wait for it to finish.
Verify the Files Before Deleting Anything
Open several imported photos and videos on the PC before removing originals from the iPhone. This is especially important when the transfer contains irreplaceable pictures.
If You Use iCloud Photos
Another option is iCloud for Windows or the iCloud website. That can be more convenient for an ongoing synchronized library, while USB import is useful when you simply want local copies on the PC.
If Windows Cannot See the Photos
Try another USB port or data-capable cable, unlock the iPhone again, and confirm the trust prompt. If the photos are optimized in iCloud and not fully stored on the device, the iPhone may also need internet access to download originals during some workflows.
Preserve Original Quality
If image quality matters, transfer the original files rather than screenshots or copies sent through a messaging app. HEIC and HEVC files may require compatible software on the computer, so do not assume a failed preview means the transfer itself was bad. Keep the originals on the iPhone until you have confirmed the computer can open and back up the imported files.
