Find My should be enabled before an iPhone goes missing. Once it is on, you can use Find My or iCloud’s Find Devices service to locate the phone, play a sound, mark it as lost, or erase it when those features are available.
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Find My.
- Tap Find My iPhone.
- Turn on Find My iPhone.
- For stronger lost-device protection, also enable Find My network and Send Last Location if those options are available.
Why Find My network matters
On supported iPhones, the Find My network can help locate the device even when it is offline and can continue to provide location capability for a period after the phone is powered off or enters power reserve.
Activation Lock
Enabling Find My also enables Activation Lock. This is an anti-theft protection that helps prevent another person from activating and using your erased iPhone without the required Apple Account credentials.
If your screen looks different
The labels on your screen can vary slightly with the iOS version, region, carrier, or app version. If a menu name is different, use the search field in Settings or update the relevant app before assuming the feature has been removed. After making the change, return to the app or feature and test it so you can confirm that the result matches what you intended.
