A VPN can be enabled on an iPhone after a VPN configuration has been installed by a provider, employer, school, or compatible app. Turning on the VPN does not create a VPN service by itself.
- Install and configure the trusted VPN service or profile you intend to use.
- Open Settings and use the VPN control shown for the installed configuration, or connect from the provider’s app.
- Turn the VPN on and wait for the connection indicator.
- Open the VPN app or configuration details if you need to choose a server or change connection behavior.
Some managed or security VPNs can reconnect automatically. If a VPN keeps turning itself back on, inspect its app, profile, or device-management settings rather than repeatedly toggling the main switch.
