How to Start a Private Browsing Session in Firefox on an iPhone

September 7, 2018 By Steven

Start a Private Browsing Session in Firefox on an iPhone can be handled directly on a current iPhone, although some menu names have changed since older iOS versions. The steps below focus on the current interface and note important differences where they matter.

Steps to use the current setting

  1. Open Firefox and tap the numbered tab button.
  2. Choose Private to switch to private browsing.
  3. Tap the plus button to open a private tab.

Private browsing keeps Firefox from saving normal browsing history, cookies, and searches for that private session, but it does not make you anonymous to websites, your network provider, or an employer or school network.

What to know

These instructions are written for current iPhone software rather than preserving an outdated model-specific path. If your device runs an older iOS release, the same feature may appear one level higher in Settings or use slightly different wording.

After making the change, test the feature once before assuming the setting worked. If the menu differs from these instructions, use the search field in Settings or update the relevant app before relying on an older model-specific path.
