Color inversion can make some screen content easier to read. iPhone offers Smart Invert, which tries to avoid reversing colors in images and some media, and Classic Invert, which reverses the colors of the display more broadly.
Turn on inverted colors
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Display & Text Size.
- Turn on Smart Invert or Classic Invert.
Smart Invert is usually the better first choice because photos, videos, and apps that already use dark styling may remain closer to their intended appearance. Classic Invert is more aggressive and can make pictures and interface colors look unusual.
If you use inversion frequently, you can add it to an Accessibility Shortcut. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select the inversion option you want. You can then use the configured shortcut instead of returning to Settings each time.
Inverting colors is different from Dark Mode. Dark Mode changes supported interface colors, while inversion alters the displayed colors more broadly.
