An iPhone 13 has a physical nano-SIM tray on models sold in many regions. Removing the SIM does not erase the iPhone, but it can disconnect the phone from cellular service associated with that card. Some carrier configurations also use eSIM, which cannot be removed with the tray.
Remove the physical SIM card
- Remove the iPhone from its case if the case covers the SIM tray.
- Locate the SIM tray on the side of the phone.
- Insert a SIM-eject tool into the small hole in the tray. If necessary, use a small straightened paper clip that fits without being forced.
- Press straight inward until the tray releases.
- Pull the tray out and remove the nano-SIM.
- When reinstalling it, place the SIM in the tray in the orientation indicated by the notched corner, then slide the tray back into the same iPhone.
Do not force the tool at an angle or pry around the tray. If the tray will not eject with reasonable pressure, a repair provider can help avoid damage.
U.S. iPhone 14 and later models moved to eSIM-only service, but that does not change the physical SIM arrangement of the iPhone 13 generation.
