The Camera grid gives you horizontal and vertical guide lines that can make it easier to level a shot and use the rule of thirds. The lines are only a composition aid; they are not saved in the finished photo.
Turn on the iPhone camera grid
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Camera.
- Find the Composition section.
- Turn on Grid.
- Open the Camera app to see the grid over the camera preview.
You can return to the same setting and switch Grid off whenever you want. On recent versions of iOS, the Camera settings may also include a Level option. That feature provides an additional alignment guide and can be useful for straight horizons or overhead photos.
Enabling the grid does not change photo resolution, file size, or image quality. It simply adds guides to the live camera view. This makes it safe to leave enabled even if you only use it occasionally.
